The voiceover process can seem daunting. But, it’s actually a lot simpler than you would imagine. Within this article, we are going to look at the simplified process of translating your content with VO.

The voiceover process: Translating your content

Many different industries are choosing to translate their content with voiceovers. According to a study by Statista:

In 2021, there are 1.35 billion people globally who speak English as a first or second language. Which, is slightly more than the 1.12 billion Mandarin Chinese speakers. Hindi and Spanish were the third and fourth most widespread languages.

This statistic proves that brands and organizations can benefit from localizing and translating their content. As a result, their content will reach a larger audience. Many industries are adopting recorded and translated voiceovers, as they are significantly cheaper than other methods, such as dubbing. You may have seen various different voiceover companies advertising the technique. And, whilst you may be familiar with the different types of voiceovers and their purpose, VO for localization does have some differences. Recording a voiceover is an art. Especially, when it’s used for translation purposes. And, while the voiceover process can be technical, it doesn’t necessarily need to be complicated. However, it is more complicated when you are producing it yourself. I have decided to simplify the localization process for this technique. Voiceover process

Gather all files needed for your voiceover

- Script, visual content etc.

Select a localization provider

- This is where you map out your vision, goals and details of the project.
- Pricing is negotiated at this stage.

Script translation

- Linguists and native translators translate the script into other languages.

Voice-over casting (This step is optional)

- Most recording studios have their own roster of voice actors to choose from. If you would rather select your own voice talent, you can host a casting or ask your provider to host one for you.

Recording the translated script

- The voice talent will work with a director and other linguists to ensure the voiceover is recorded correctly and accurately.

Audio post

- Any editing, audio cleaning, mixing or other audio post services are performed at this stage.
